2025 Lenten Appeal
Dear Friends,
As we enter into the Holy Season of Lent, permit me to express my gratitude for your prayers and generous support which have helped enormously in our transition from Seminary to Retreat & Conference Center - the largest facility of its kind on the East Coast.
As a spiritual center and place of renewal, Immaculate Conception hosts workshops, lectures, and retreats for both religious and secular gatherings. In addition to dioceses and groups from across the country, clergy conferences, parish groups, religious order chapters, high school retreats, etc. from the Dioceses of Brooklyn, Rockville Centre and Bridgeport, and the Archdiocese of New York continue to avail themselves of our unmatched facilities.
The Permanent Diaconate Formation Program of the Diocese of Rockville Centre is based at Immaculate Conception, and throughout the year we serve as the retreat venue for seminarians from St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. While providing a warm and hospitable environment for students and retreatants, our mission of "education and formation in the Catholic faith in service of the local and universal Church" continues to be observed.
When planning your almsgiving for Lent, we ask that you consider financial support for the Immaculate Conception Retreat & Conference Center. With expanded use of our beautiful, nearly century-old building and facilities comes the need to maintain and upgrade. One of those upgrades is the sorely needed air-conditioning of the Refectory. Cooling this vast space is currently done via fans- but not very successfully. As any June-through-September visitor can attest, the dining room is one of the least comfortable areas in the building. All guest and meeting rooms . have individual air-conditioning units, but the Refectory - with high ceilings and open entryway - requires more sophisticated technology.
Preliminary estimates for the air-conditioning project indicate a cost of approximately $50,000. Completion of the project will result in comfort for our guests and increase the feasibility of gatherings and meetings during the Summer months. Any assistance that you can offer to help defray the cost will be gratefully accepted. No offering is too small. If you are not able to help financially, we ask for your prayers for the success of this campaign. As a spiritual gift, we invite you to note any special intentions to be included in our prayers during Lent and left at the altar in the Holy Cross Chapel.
Wishing you a blessed and fruitful Lent, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Msgr. Steven R. Camp
Rector

“Our Seminary is truly an icon of the heart of the Church here on Long Island. Not only does it reflect the many cultures and traditions that make up this multifaceted island from Brooklyn to Queens to Nassau and Suffolk, it also reflects the richness of the life of the Church both in her celebration of mysteries and in the variety of the spiritual forces that shape our lives and guide our future. Here at the Seminary, which truly can be called ‘Mary’s House,’ one encounters the Lord. One encounters Mary, the Mother of the Church, who under the title of the Immaculate Conception watches over this Seminary and indeed all of Long Island.” |
