About the Friends of the Seminary
The Friends of the Seminary are a group of more than one hundred men and women who, through a variety of activities and committees, assist the Seminary in making it a more visible presence on Long Island. Formed in 1988, members are invited to join committees according to their interests and talents. Standing committees include Fundraising, Membership, Rose Garden, Spirituality and Education, and Vocations. The Friends provide invaluable assistance to the Seminary through their involvement on the aforementioned committees and their dedication to the Seminary’s mission. They sponsor the annual Joy of Music Concert and Reception, a major fundraiser for the Seminary, and they lovingly maintain the beautiful Rose Garden located at the Seminary.
A Brief History
In May 1988 the Seminary opened its doors to a group of lay people in response to their desire to partake of the Seminary’s opportunities for spiritual growth and who were committed to the Seminary’s development. This group is known as “The Friends of the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception.” Through a variety of activities and committees, the Friends continue to assist the Seminary in making it a more viable presence on Long Island for men and women of faith.
Members are invited to join these committees according to their interests and talents. The Standing Committees are: Fundraising, Rose Garden, Membership, Spirituality & Education, and Vocations. Activities to which the Friends have been invited have included Advent’s Lessons & Carols, the Easter Vigil, the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Solemnity of the Ascension, lectures including the Msgr. George Denzer Lecture, and special events.
